Wilmington moves into Spanish RegTech with Conversia buy

Wilmington

Wilmington, a global provider of data, information, education and training services in the GRC markets, has announced the acquisition of Conversia, a Spanish RegTech business specialising in Data Privacy compliance.

The move marks Wilmington’s strategic entry into the Data Privacy sector, expanding its GRC market presence and diversifying its portfolio. The acquisition is part of Wilmington’s growth strategy, which combines organic development with targeted acquisitions to strengthen revenue quality and profitability. The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

Wilmington operates internationally, offering subscription-based data and information platforms, along with professional training, to clients across multiple regulated sectors. Conversia, headquartered in Barcelona, develops proprietary RegTech documentation generation software solutions, primarily in the Data Privacy space, and delivers complementary training programmes created in-house.

Conversia serves a target market of 3.2m small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and homeowner associations in Spain, helping them meet legal obligations under Data Privacy and other compliance regulations. The company is the market leader in its segment, with significant room for growth. Its experienced management team is incentivised to stay in place for at least five years following the acquisition.

The acquisition is still subject to Foreign Direct Investment clearance in Spain. Wilmington said the deal reflects its ongoing commitment to investing in growth opportunities and actively managing its brand portfolio to align with long-term strategic goals.

Wilmington CEO Mark Millner said, “This acquisition strengthens our position in the GRC markets and introduces Wilmington to the regulated Data Privacy sector. It aligns with our broader ambition to diversify and grow our portfolio of products and services. Conversia is the industry leader in a rapidly growing market in Spain for the provision of software and RegTech solutions, helping small and medium-sized enterprises meet legally regulated Data Privacy compliance requirements. It operates in a large addressable target market, delivering high quality revenues of which greater than 70 per cent. are annually recurring, and is led by an impressive, successful, and committed management team. This acquisition will add significant value across all our stakeholders. We look forward to welcoming Alfonso and his team to Wilmington.”
