SFDR updates reshape Article 8 & 9 disclosures

Sustainable finance continues to take centre stage in Europe’s regulatory landscape as 2025 advances, with fund managers needing to adapt quickly to changing requirements. Maintaining compliance while safeguarding investor confidence in ESG commitments has become a top priority for firms distributing products across the region.

Zeidler Group, which offers support for investment funds law, recently delved into the new SFDR clarifications for Article 8 and 9 products.

In August 2025, the European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs) released a fresh set of Q&As under the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR). These updates directly affect how managers prepare periodic reports for Article 8 and Article 9 products. The new guidance, now fully integrated into Zeidler’s Global Knowledge Hub (GKH), provides much-needed clarity on key disclosure elements and aims to bring greater alignment across the market.

One major clarification concerns the calculation of “top investments” within periodic disclosures. Regulators have now outlined how these figures should be standardised to reduce inconsistencies across different fund reports.

Another important update covers the minimum proportion of sustainable investments. Managers must now clearly define and disclose the share of environmentally and socially sustainable assets in each fund. This requirement ensures periodic reports accurately reflect investment strategies and binding commitments, supporting greater transparency between Article 8 and 9 products.

To help firms stay ahead, the GKH platform has been refreshed with all the latest SFDR clarifications and related regulatory insights. Covering SFDR compliance, UCITS and AIF rules, pre-marketing regimes, and ongoing obligations across 80+ jurisdictions, the platform combines expert analysis with access to legal professionals for tailored support — all under a fixed annual subscription model.
