Document management specialist M-Files has announced a series of new integrations with Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot Agent Builder, building on its existing strategic partnership with the tech giant.
The new experiences are designed to help organisations extract greater value from their AI investments by grounding outputs in trusted, context-enriched content stored natively within Microsoft 365.
The company, which positions itself as a context-first document management system, says the latest developments go well beyond a standard integration. Employees can now access M-Files content through Microsoft 365 in the same way they would interact with SharePoint or OneDrive, while simultaneously benefiting from M-Files’ metadata-driven, context-aware approach to information management.
Three core advantages underpin the new offering. First, Microsoft 365 Copilot outputs are anchored in M-Files’ permission-aware architecture, meaning all surfaced content respects individual user access rights and aligns with organisational policies.
Second, M-Files provides context-rich information that helps Copilot and Copilot Agent Builder understand how key business concepts — such as customers, contracts, processes, and components — are interrelated, enabling more sophisticated reasoning and AI-driven automation.
Third, by allowing staff to find and utilise trusted knowledge directly inside Microsoft 365, the integration reduces context-switching and time lost navigating disparate systems, with the aim of delivering a stronger return on existing Microsoft investments.
M-Files vice president of strategic operations and corporate development Ryan Barry said, “Many organizations are realizing that AI is only as strong as the information behind it. Without the right context, even the most advanced models struggle to deliver accurate, actionable insights or reliably execute agentic workflows with the precision required to generate measurable business efficiencs.
“With the new experiences announced today, M-Files further demonstrates why its context-first document management system is the clear choice for enhancing Microsoft 365.”
Microsoft director of product marketing for SharePoint and OneDrive John Mighell said, “We’re seeing strong market demand for our solutions with M-Files, which is a direct result of the deep collaboration across our teams. These new solutions enrich Microsoft Work IQ with context from M-Files’ enterprise knowledge graph empowering differentiated AI experiences.
“Our partnership reflects a shared commitment to secure information, advanced governance, and the next generation of agent driven productivity.”
The announcement comes as M-Files continues to strengthen its standing within the Microsoft ecosystem. The company was recently recognised by Microsoft as the winner of the 2025 Marketplace Solution Partner of the Year in Finland, and holds the distinction of being the first document management system to leverage SharePoint Embedded — a move the company says helps organisations maximise their Microsoft investment and reduce operational friction.
Early adopter feedback has been positive. Berggren digital ninja Mikko Pippuri said, “We are genuinely excited by what we’ve seen of the new M-Files experience for Microsoft 365 Copilot. Deriving AI value starts with accurate, governed information, and pairing Microsoft 365 Copilot with M-Files represents a compelling approach to enabling precision, compliance, and auditability for confident AI use across our business.”
