Coadjute deploys digital human for AML checks

Coadjute

Coadjute, a PropTech firm backed by Lloyds Banking Group, NatWest and Nationwide, has unveiled Clara, the first digital human in the UK built to support estate agents and their clients through anti-money laundering (AML) checks.

An estimated £10bn is laundered through UK property annually, fuelling organised crime, human trafficking, corruption and sanctions evasion. Tightening regulation in response to this has placed a growing compliance burden on estate agents, prompting Coadjute to develop a new solution.

Clara is an intelligent, conversational assistant embedded within Coadjute’s platform. Designed to work directly with buyers and sellers, she guides users through the AML process by explaining what the checks involve, outlining the exact documents required, and assisting with uploading them. Her integration within the platform means she brings compliance expertise and a sophisticated understanding of AML risk to each interaction, responding in real time to request additional information where necessary.

Despite Clara’s capabilities, every check completed through the platform continues to be reviewed and approved by a qualified compliance professional. Operating around the clock, she extends the reach of the human compliance team to serve international buyers in different time zones, as well as domestic users completing checks outside business hours.

Coadjute already provides a fully managed AML service that combines an advanced platform with a UK-based compliance team. The company has positioned itself at the forefront of helping estate agents and conveyancers modernise their compliance processes.

Clara forms part of Coadjute’s broader next-generation platform, described as “AI-native” — meaning AI was incorporated from the ground up rather than added retrospectively. Beyond the digital human interface, the platform equips estate agents and conveyancers with tools to monitor individual risk indicators, adjust evidence requirements, and track compliance progress with greater transparency. The platform is being rolled out to existing Coadjute customers over the next six months and is available to select new customers immediately.

Coadjute CEO Dan Salmons said, “We wanted the next generation of Coadjute’s platform to use AI not to replace people, but to work seamlessly with them. Clara makes the process so easy and intuitive for buyers and sellers – especially those who aren’t ‘tech savyy’ – and the many new features of the platform all help estate agents and conveyancers achieve really high levels of AML compliance without the burden. It’s transformative”.

Broadcaster and Coadjute ambassador Phil Spencer said, “Coadjute have come up with a real game-changer here. Estate agents are on the front-line of the battle against money laundering, and the new version of their platform is going to be a massive help. Home buyers and sellers are really going to love Clara, she makes the whole process so easy, she’s really quite astonishing”.
