GoCardless and anvil automate telco payments

GoCardless, the bank payment company, has partnered with anvil, an all-in-one business management and billing platform for the telecom and IT sectors, to launch a new integration aimed at automating payment collection and account management for telecom operators and managed service providers.

The collaboration links anvil’s billing infrastructure directly to the GoCardless payment network, giving telcos and MSPs a way to streamline how they take payments from customers and keep their accounts up to date, removing much of the manual work previously involved.

A central feature of the tie-up is how it simplifies the payment process from the very first interaction with a customer, at the point an order is placed. Customers provide their bank details and approve a Direct Debit as part of an electronic contract, with anvil then forwarding this information to GoCardless. GoCardless uses it to set up the customer profile and mandate, meaning every subsequent payment can be processed without staff having to re-enter details into a separate system.

The integration also extends into the billing cycle itself. Once a bill run has been completed, a single action allows users to both trigger the collection instructions through GoCardless and mark the relevant invoices as paid, all without leaving the anvil platform.

Underpinning the collections process is GoCardless’s AI-driven tool, Success+, which automatically attempts to retry payments that initially fail. Should a payment ultimately prove uncollectable, anvil receives immediate notification, allowing it to update its records accordingly. This is designed to give businesses a constantly accurate, real-time picture of which invoices are settled and which remain outstanding, without relying on manual reconciliation.

Tom Metcalfe, Director, Global Partnerships at GoCardless, said, “Managing complex billing cycles and manually chasing failed payments can be a huge drain on resources for telcos and MSPs. By connecting our bank payment network directly into anvil, we are removing that administrative burden entirely. This integration links contract signing straight to automated payment collection, helping businesses secure their revenue faster, reduce back-office errors, and give their customers an effortless way to pay.”

James Shraga, Sales and Partnerships Director at anvil, said, “anvil exists to give telecoms resellers one platform for the whole business – sales, CRM, operations and ticketing, billing and rating. This partnership extends that thinking to payments. Setup happens at the moment the customer signs their contract, with the Direct Debit mandate created automatically as part of the signature.

“From then on, collections go out the moment a bill run completes, and any missed payment is fed straight back in for credit control to act on. It’s the full cycle, from signed contract to collected cash, running inside the platform where our customers already manage their business.”
