Bretton AI lands multi-year MVB Bank compliance deal

MVB Bank, a West Virginia-based subsidiary of Nasdaq-listed MVB Financial Corp., has agreed a multi-year partnership with Bretton AI to use AI-powered operations for its anti-money laundering (AML) transaction monitoring and know-your-customer (KYC) compliance work.

The partnership will see a dedicated US-based Bretton AI team use the company’s platform to complete AML transaction monitoring alerts and KYC cases in line with MVB’s existing policies and risk framework. MVB said the arrangement is designed to increase compliance capacity as its FinTech partnerships expand without requiring a proportional increase in back-office headcount.

MVB has spent 20 years developing a national FinTech and payments business alongside its community banking operations. As its partnerships grow, the bank expects the volume of monitoring and due-diligence work to increase, creating additional pressure on compliance teams.

Rather than expanding its compliance workforce at the same rate, MVB is using Bretton AI to add capacity to these processes. The arrangement combines Bretton’s technology with a dedicated team responsible for carrying out the work under MVB’s policies and standards.

AI-assisted outputs produced by Bretton’s analysts are reviewed by a trained human reviewer before being provided to MVB. The companies said the human-in-the-loop model is intended to provide consistent reviews while allowing MVB to increase processing capacity without relying solely on additional headcount.

Bretton AI charges for completed work rather than analyst hours, according to the companies.

Its platform is designed to carry out compliance, risk, fraud and operational tasks using each institution’s own data and policies, with decisions logged for review.

MVB Financial Corp. provides banking and financial services to FinTech, payments and gaming clients, alongside retail and commercial banking. Its offering includes payments, card issuance and online banking capabilities.

MVB Bank chief compliance officer Julie O’Connor said, “MVB built a national Fintech business on top of a traditional bank, and that growth brings increasingly complex compliance demands. Bretton AI gives us a way to scale monitoring and due-diligence capacity while keeping MVB in control of the program, its decisions and its filings. That allows our team to focus on the highest-risk work, support responsible growth, and advance our broader AI strategy.”

Bretton AI managing director and head of services Rick Shooman also commented, “MVB is showing what it looks like to scale a sophisticated Fintech business without recreating the same labor-heavy operating model around it. Bretton brings the platform and the operating team together in one accountable service. We perform the work under MVB’s policies and standards, while MVB remains in control of its risk program.”
