Perplexity taps Flanks to power AI-driven wealth management

Perplexity taps Flanks to make wealth AI trustworthy

Flanks, the WealthTech firm providing a unified data layer for wealth managers, has partnered with Perplexity to bring regulated, multi-bank portfolio data into the AI platform’s finance tools.

The partnership makes Flanks one of the first European wealth data providers to join Perplexity’s connector ecosystem, giving its AI access to aggregated data from more than 700 financial institutions. Unlike Perplexity’s existing retail brokerage connectors, the Flanks integration is focused on regulated wealth and banking data.

The connector is now live across Perplexity’s answer engine and its Computer agent platform, allowing users to query portfolio holdings, investment positions and transaction histories and take action on that information without leaving the platform. Private banks and wealth advisors can use the data for tasks including client reporting, portfolio monitoring, meeting preparation and ETF overlap analysis through natural-language prompts.

By connecting Flanks’ aggregation infrastructure directly into Perplexity’s AI environment, the partnership aims to give wealth professionals a more reliable data foundation for deploying AI across their workflows. Flanks provides a consolidated data layer for banks, family offices, asset managers and pension providers, aggregating and enriching portfolios across multiple asset classes, including alternatives. The platform processes more than 8.2m portfolios each month across more than 33 countries, with more than €43bn in assets aggregated.

Founded in Barcelona in 2019 by Joaquim de la Cruz, Sergi Lao and Álvaro Morales, Flanks operates as an Account Information Service Provider regulated by the Bank of Spain under European Central Bank supervision.

The company also holds SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3 certification and aligns with UK Consumer Duty requirements. Perplexity was founded in 2022 as an AI answer engine designed to provide responses with cited sources. The company has since expanded into AI agents and operates products including the Comet Browser, Comet Assistant and Perplexity Computer, which can coordinate tools, files, code, memory and the open web. Perplexity says its platform answers more than 1.5bn questions globally each month.

Flanks CEO and co-founder Joaquim de la Cruz said, “Financial advisors are drowning in fragmented data – stitched together across custodians, spreadsheets and legacy providers, with no single source of truth. That’s the barrier stopping most institutions from actually harnessing AI, no matter how good the model is.”

de la Cruz said, “The real opportunity isn’t another standalone tool solving one task in isolation, but connecting AI into a system that works across the full advisory process.”

Perplexity head of live event products Jeff Grimes also commented, “Millions of users rely on Perplexity Finance to find and take action upon their own licensed financial data subscriptions.”

He added that Flanks provides “regulated, institution-grade coverage across European banks and wealth institutions”, giving Perplexity the data quality required for AI-driven financial workflows.
