Alipay has announced a revamped version of its international app with for overseas travellers to China ahead of the Hangzhou Asian Games.
The leading digital payment platform revealed the news during the the 2023 Alipay Partner Conference, and claimed the updated app will have customisable services for travellers coming into the nation for the competition.
The new international version, with language options including English and easy-to-use translation tool, aims to fulfill international travellers’ mobile payment needs in China and enhance their local travel experience.
Yaoyao Jin, Alipay’s product lead in charge of its international version said, “We will continue to optimise our products and services to better serve international visitors to China by enhancing their travel experience with convenient mobile payment services.
“We also encourage more merchants and service providers operating digitally on Alipay platform to enhance their services for international travellers.”
The app is also set to integrate frequently-used domestic travel services, including those related to the Asian Games through the Smart Hangzhou mini program, to best ease the incoming fans of the multi-sport event.
Since 2022, Alipay has partnered with international card networks to further upgrade its payment service for international travellers, giving its users the ability to link an international credit or debit card from Visa, Mastercard, JCB, Discover, and Diners Club, allowing them to pay at tens of millions of Alipay partner merchants across China.
