Fission raises $10m to unlock liquidity for tokenised funds

Fission, a blockchain-powered FinTech firm developing liquidity infrastructure for tokenised investment funds, has secured $10m in a Series A round as it seeks to bring faster access to capital to digital private markets.

Pantera Capital led the investment, which also saw participation from Circle Ventures, New Form, gumi Cryptos Capital, Borderless Capital and Ari Rubenstein, CEO of GTS.

The raise brings Pantera Capital, Circle Ventures, Borderless Capital and Rubenstein into Fission’s shareholder base for the first time. They join a roster of existing supporters that includes New Form, gumi Cryptos Capital, Anthony Scaramucci, Manhattan Venture Partners, Reflexive Capital and Lattice Capital.

Fission plans to use the funding to grow its liquidity capacity, widen the range of tokenised private-market and semi-liquid funds it supports, and strengthen its integrations with institutions and the broader digital investment ecosystem.

The company argues that while tokenisation is shifting private-market funds onto digital rails, liquidity has lagged behind. Tokenisation has reshaped how fund interests are issued, distributed and settled. However, much of the surrounding market structure has stayed the same, and investors in tokenised funds still face periodic redemption windows, thin secondary markets and restrictive financing arrangements.

Fission aims to address this by letting eligible holders of supported tokenised fund products access capital without having to wait for conventional redemption cycles. Its coverage spans asset classes such as private credit, alternatives and other institutional investment products. Fission has already handled millions of dollars in redemptions, which it says reflects rising demand for more flexible liquidity. It is increasing its capacity by drawing on both traditional and on-chain capital sources.

The platform has been designed specifically for institutional and permissioned markets. Its infrastructure accounts for the investor eligibility rules, transfer restrictions and compliance obligations that apply to regulated investment products. This enables Fission to offer on-chain liquidity while keeping in place the safeguards demanded by securities markets.

Fission’s mission is to make investment funds more liquid, accessible and financeable by providing the digital infrastructure needed for these products to scale worldwide.

Fission founder and CEO Jonathan Shaffer said, “Putting funds on-chain is only the beginning. The real promise of tokenization is creating fundamentally better markets around these assets: broader distribution, continuous liquidity and the ability to use fund interests as collateral in lending markets. Whether a fund is private or simply constrained by traditional liquidity structures, Fission is building the technology that makes those assets more liquid, transferable and useful across financial markets.”

Pantera Capital general partner Franklin Bi said, “Investment funds are moving onto digital rails and liquidity is one of the critical pieces required for that transition to reach its full potential. Fission is building infrastructure that will help transform tokenized funds from representations of traditional products with legacy constraints into fundamentally more liquid and productive assets.”
