- Techstars, a US venture capital firm with offices in the UK, which invests mostly in seed and pre-seed rounds, was the most active FinTech investor in the UK for the first quarter of 2022 with five investments in total. Techstars have been making deals in London for over 10 years and have funded more than 2,200 companies which as of May 2022 have a combined market cap valuation of $29bn. Notable Techstars investments in the first quarter of 2022 include Xworks, an end-to-end compliance provider using ai and blockchain to digitise and minimise waste streams, and Strikes, a data-driven stocks and options trading app.
- Deal activity in the UK is expected to set new records in 2022 with 812 deals in total based on Q1 2022 levels, a 11% increase from 2021. This continues the UK’s dominance as the FinTech hub in Europe which can be seen by combining the total deals of the next top three countries in Europe (France, Germany and Sweden) adding up to only 684.
