KPMG and Watershed unite to streamline corporate carbon footprint measurement

KPMG

KPMG has formed a partnership with climate solutions software provider Watershed to enable firms to accurate measure and deal with their carbon emissions.

KPMG, known for its broad range of audit, tax, and advisory services, is a global network of professional firms providing these services to a wide variety of sectors. Watershed, on the other hand, is a software platform established in 2019, specialising in helping businesses plan, implement, and maintain effective climate programmes.

The primary aim of this partnership is to enable companies to accurately measure and subsequently address their carbon emissions. In the face of growing environmental concerns and a push towards sustainable practices, this collaboration seeks to equip businesses with the tools and insights they need to make meaningful reductions in their carbon footprint.

In detail, Watershed offers a unique software platform that assists businesses in planning, executing, and running climate programmes. The platform provides solutions for analysing and measuring scopes 1, 2, and 3 emissions, complemented by detailed dashboards that allow for category-specific breakdowns, from the scope and vendor to the location, all benchmarked against industry standards.

In turn, KPMG leverages its expertise in providing advisory services to draw meaningful insights from the data collected via Watershed’s platform. By doing so, they aim to inform decision-making and map out clear paths towards decarbonisation for their shared customers.

Under the umbrella of this collaboration, both companies will offer a suite of capabilities tailored towards enabling real carbon reductions. This suite is built upon the integration of KPMG’s advisory services and Watershed’s carbon data platform.

Watershed Head of Partnerships, Kristin Thayer, voiced her enthusiasm about the partnership, saying, “We’re thrilled to work with KPMG to offer our shared customers a climate programme and ecosystem of ESG services to provide granular measurement, tangible emissions reduction, and audit-ready climate disclosure.”

Echoing her sentiments, Mark Golovcsenko, KPMG Advisory Partner and ESG and Climate Strategy Leader, added, “Companies evolving their businesses to meet emissions reduction targets amidst growing pressure and incentives need high-quality, trusted carbon metrics and reporting. We are working with them to navigate and simplify the complexities of their climate journey. Together with Watershed, we’ll help companies action their climate programmes while building trust with stakeholders and driving value.”
