Key European FinTech investment stats in Q3 2026:
- European FinTech investments grew by 20% YoY in Q3
- Deals over $100m doubled as investors prioritised high-value deal activity
- Exein, a Physical AI cybersecurity company protecting intelligent machines including robots, drones and autonomous vehicles, raised $270m at a valuation of $1.7bn, marking one of the biggest European FinTech deals of the third quarter
European FinTech investments grew by 20% YoY in Q3
European FinTech market attracted $2.4bn across 172 deals in Q3 2026, down 55% in funding from the $5.4bn recorded across 194 deals in Q2 2026, with deal volume also 11% lower.
Against the same quarter a year earlier, funding was up 20% from the $2bn raised across 174 deals in Q3 2025, with deal volume broadly flat at 1% lower.
The year-on-year improvement is encouraging, though the sharp pullback from Q2 2026 levels tempers the picture considerably.
Average deal size was $11.7m in Q3 2025, rising to $28.0m in Q2 2026 before falling back to $14.2m in Q3 2026, a trajectory that reflects the outsized influence of large transactions in Q2 2026 rather than any sustained shift in how capital is being deployed across the sector.
Deals over $100m doubled as investors prioritised high-value deal activity
The breakdown by deal size adds important context.
Funding from transactions under $100m reached $1.3bn in Q3 2026, down 11% from the $1.5bn recorded in Q3 2025 and down 24% from the $1.7bn seen in Q2 2026.
Smaller deal activity has edged lower across both comparisons, though the decline is relatively contained.
Larger deals of $100m or more came in at $1.1bn in Q3 2026, 2.0x the $551m recorded in Q3 2025 but down 70% from the $3.7bn seen in Q2 2026.
The contrast between those two reference points is striking and illustrates how heavily Q2 2026 was skewed by high-value transactions.
The year-on-year doubling in larger deals does, however, offer a more constructive signal, suggesting that appetite for sizeable commitments in European FinTech has not disappeared entirely.
Exein, a Physical AI cybersecurity company protecting intelligent machines including robots, drones and autonomous vehicles, raised $270m at a valuation of $1.7bn, marking one of the biggest European FinTech deals of the third quarter
The round was led by Headline, with participation from Sofina, Goldman Sachs, European Investment Bank Group ETCI, KfW Capital and T.Capital, alongside existing investors Balderton, HV, Lakestar and others. J.P. Morgan also upsized Exein’s existing revolving credit facility, with KfW joining as an additional lender.
Rome-headquartered Exein’s valuation has grown thirtyfold in two years, with H1 2026 annual recurring revenue up 4x year on year.
Its Photon architecture operates at kernel level to block malicious execution before an attack can run, designed specifically for autonomous machines where security must respond at machine speed.
The company’s technology is distributed across more than two billion devices and it currently detects around 5,000 new, non-repetitive attacks across its network each week, five times the level recorded a year ago.
Exein is also developing a proprietary foundation model trained on machine telemetry data to power autonomous security agents, with its first models expected in Q1 2027.
Proceeds will accelerate expansion in the US and APAC, including a planned Bay Area office.
