Validation through testing further strengthens credibility. Back-testing against historical cases proves whether the model would have flagged past risks, while forward-testing demonstrates effectiveness in live scenarios. Federated learning enhances both by allowing benchmarking across institutions without exposing raw data, reinforcing the model’s adaptability and credibility.

Ultimately, regulators seek measurable improvements: fewer false positives, higher suspicious activity report (SAR) conversion, faster case resolution, and prioritisation by risk rather than chronology. Executives want the same outcomes explained in plain terms. To meet these expectations, AML leaders must combine explainability, benchmarking, and privacy-preserving architectures.
