Four Swiss regional cantonal banks, Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank, Basler Kantonalbank with Bank Cler AG, St. Galler Kantonalbank AG and Thurgauer Kantonalbank, have selected Avaloq, a banking technology provider, to overhaul their mobile banking services for approximately one million clients.
The four institutions jointly assessed and selected Avaloq following a collaborative review of technology partners best suited to their digitalisation strategies. Migration to Avaloq’s updated mobile banking capabilities will be carried out in phases across the participating banks.
The new mobile application offers improved usability, performance and flexibility, and is built to serve as a stable base for ongoing development. Features include trading and portfolio management, configurable dashboards, real-time notifications, Apple and Google Pay integration, and credit card management. Banks will also have the ability to independently introduce new features over time.
The project is also intended to act as a model for deeper cooperation between cantonal banks more broadly. Participating institutions aim to share learnings and coordinate innovation efforts to collectively strengthen their digital capabilities and improve the client experience on a sustainable basis.
Avaloq offers front-to-back software and services for over 170 financial institutions around the world. Its clients include private banks, wealth managers and investment managers, as well as retail banks.
Thurgauer Kantonalbank head of IT Manuel Niederkofler, representing the community of cantonal banks, said: “This initiative demonstrates how collaboration among cantonal banks can support the digitalization of banking and improve client experience. We selected Avaloq for this project based on its proven track record in core banking, sustained investment in research and development, and its Swiss roots, as well as a collaborative approach to innovation for the long-term benefit for our clients.”
Avaloq managing director for Switzerland and Liechtenstein Christian Haux said: “We are proud to be the chosen technology partner for this initiative, working closely with cantonal banks to develop and deploy a mobile banking solution aligned with the needs of their clients in Switzerland. With rising expectations for intuitive digital services and self-service, mobile banking has become a clear priority for financial institutions, and we are committed to ensuring that our clients can offer a modern, user-friendly mobile banking experience.”
