Kayna unveils InsurTech tool to close coverage gaps

Kayna, an Irish InsurTech and insurance infrastructure partner of Willis, a WTW business, has introduced Risk Manager, a real-time, stand-alone module that scrutinises policy wording, highlights coverage shortfalls and encourages insurance purchases to meet compliance needs.

The new tool has been built specifically for franchise networks, marketplaces and vertical SaaS platforms operating across a range of sectors. It gives enterprise risk managers and their teams access to live risk intelligence aimed at cutting third-party risk exposure, forming part of Kayna’s broader mission to close the insurance protection gap through data-led InsurTech development.

Users access the module through a straightforward portal. Rather than repeatedly searching through PDF documents, the system reads each policy, its endorsements and related contracts a single time, extracting every exclusion, definition and limit into a structured record that retains the original clause numbers. It then measures the policy wording against whatever requirement applies, confirming whether the contract’s conditions have been met, with subsequent checks drawing on that same organised record.

The module can run independently or sit alongside an existing certificate of insurance tracker, acting as an additional layer of policy-level scrutiny. Each result carries a citation identifying the specific policy clause behind it for every vendor, keeping the audit trail clear and time-stamped, while unclear wording prompts a query rather than an assumption.

A portfolio-wide dashboard then breaks down coverage gaps by insurance product and by franchisee or vendor category, cutting review time for risk, legal and broker teams while surfacing vendor coverage gaps ahead of any claim being made.

Risk Manager has already been deployed across several group insurance programmes, among them a 260-location US retail franchise network. Rolling the tool out there involved analysing 3,000 insurance policy documents, equivalent to more than ten per franchisee, within a single day. That work produced a full insurance risk report spanning network-wide compliance figures down to individual franchisee detail, giving the internal risk team the information needed to prioritise and close gaps in coverage.

Kayna Co-Founder and CEO Paul Prendergast said, “Kayna Risk Manager is already delivering as a ground-breaking new element in our product portfolio. Being live in the US has allowed us to secure key measurable proof points as we typically find the real compliance rate drops to between 20-25% once our tool assesses vendors that were previously reported as compliant. That’s hugely compelling, particularly for risk managers within large franchise networks and platforms that carry the liability for vendor and subcontractor compliance. This is the start of a new and exciting product pathway for our business.”

Kayna Co-Founder and CTO Peter Bermingham said, “We discovered that trackers do one job really well. They file the certificate and flag when it expires. What they can’t do is read the actual policy behind the certificate. So a tracker will tell you a vendor is compliant even when the endorsement naming the required ‘additional insured’ quietly dropped off at their last renewal. Kayna goes further. Our tool goes beyond an existing tracker to deliver a full policy-level analysis layer that also verifies accuracy – that’s the game-changer!”
