Platform One, a wealth platform for IFAs, wealth manages and trading platforms, has partnered with Trading 212, the commission-free investment platform, to deliver the infrastructure underpinning Trading 212’s newly launched pension product.
Platform One is serving as both trustee and administrator for the pension scheme, supplying the operational backbone that allows Trading 212 to offer a fully functional and scalable pension to its customers. The product attracted more than 75,000 account openings during Beta testing.
Central to the arrangement is Platform One’s API-first architecture, which allows Trading 212 to integrate pension functionality directly into its own platform. This setup enables real-time data flow between the two systems, while Platform One handles scheme administration, regulatory compliance and trustee responsibilities behind the scenes.
The structure gives Trading 212 the freedom to develop its front-end experience independently, without taking on the operational burden of pension governance.
Platform One CEO Alex Cowan-Sanluis said: “This partnership is the perfect example of how modern pension infrastructure can enable innovation in the market. By providing the trustee and administration layer, we allow great businesses like Trading 212 to focus on delivering exceptional client experiences, while we handle the complexity in the background.
“Our API-first and flexible approach means our partners can integrate and build quickly and scale efficiently. Our ability to provide pension plumbing is about giving firms the tools to build compelling, scalable retirement propositions, underpinned by robust trustee, administrative and operational expertise.”
Trading 212 COO George Mantilas said: “Trading 212’s partnership with Platform One marks an exciting expansion of the products and services we provide to the UK retail market. The combination of Trading 212’s technology-led investment services with Platform One’s specialist pension infrastructure and administration capabilities is enabling us to deliver a scalable, digital-first pension proposition for today’s investors.
“The strong alignment between our firms in both technology and culture also supports Trading 212’s long-standing mission of democratising investing by removing unnecessary costs and barriers to entry through our zero-commission model. Together, we are helping more people invest, build wealth and plan for their financial futures with confidence through the provision of accessible, low-cost financial products.”
