GB Bank, a specialist lender pursuing rapid growth, has launched nCino Mortgage Lending across its Buy-To-Let and Bridging operations. The bank is betting that a single digitised platform will give it the operational backbone needed to expand.
As outlined in an nCino blog, the deployment covers the full lending lifecycle, from origination through to completion, and further business lines are expected to migrate onto the system later. GB Bank set out to create a modern operating model that could underpin its flexible lending products and improve how clients move through each deal. Its ambition was to establish a framework robust enough to support expansion.
Before choosing a vendor, the bank compared developing technology internally with acquiring an existing solution. An in-house build would have offered more control, but GB Bank concluded that working with an external provider would solve its internal resourcing constraints and let it grow at a quicker pace.
With one unified system now in place, the lender says it has gained more consistent customer journeys, improved efficiency, clearer oversight of deals and loans, and stronger management information (MI) that feeds ongoing refinement. These insights, the bank notes, give it a sharper picture of its own performance and ultimately serve its customers.
GB Bank focuses on specialist, flexible lending for clients whose borrowing requirements are often complex. It views its relationship with nCino as a long-term strategic alliance rather than a standard vendor contract, describing it as a “truly strategic partnership”. The bank also called the experience “great experience…very human…technically brilliant and insightful.”
The two firms have also collaborated on artificial intelligence, developing tools for processing documents and generating data insights, alongside a deliberate effort to eliminate manual tasks. GB Bank worked with nCino to define its AI goals and lay the groundwork for future development. It stresses that the aim is to support staff rather than replace them. For institutions beginning a similar overhaul, the bank recommends setting a clear vision and measurable outcomes early on, choosing a partner with deep banking knowledge that grasps the organisation’s plans, and adopting an iterative approach that builds in best practice along the way.
GB Bank chief operating officer Anne-Marie Lister said, “We’ve really enjoyed watching how the partnership has evolved, and we value their expertise and how they have augmented our internal expertise.”
On the decision to buy rather than build, Lister said, “Buying was absolutely the right decision.” She added, “We understand more about ourselves, our lending, and our customers.”
Lister also said, “GB Bank is a people business; our clients have complex lending needs. The ability to automate means our underwriters and relationship managers can have more meaningful conversations and deliver more efficient experiences without losing that personal touch.”
She concluded, “nCino has truly helped us to scale and realise our growth ambitions. nCino is an instrumental partnership in our success so far.”
The nCino blog highlights the partnership as an example of how specialist lenders can use technology to support growth while maintaining a focus on customer relationships and staff expertise.
