Vulcan Capital opens Singapore office, with plans to invest $100m in region

Vulcan Capital has opened its first international office in Singapore and plans to invest $100m into venture opportunities across Southeast Asia.

Founded in 2003, Vulcan Capital invests in both private and public companies with a long-term investment horizon. The Singapore division will focus on seed, Series A and Series B investments and leverage a local investment team and its global network to source local opportunities.

The investor, which is based in the US, supports a range of industries, including FinTech.

Earlier in the month, the firm participated in the $60m Series C round of smart finance and automated accounting platform ScaleFactor. The company helps SMEs streamline their back-office tasks such as bill paying, tax compliance, invoicing, and payroll.

Other FinTechs in its portfolio include cloud security compliance platform Shunjinko, tax compliance solution LumaTax, and digital remittance service Remitly.

Vulcan Capital chief investment officer Chris Orndorff said, “Vulcan Capital has a long history of working with entrepreneurs in developing and achieving success. Most of our investments have been focused across North America and we’re looking forward to deepening our relationships with entrepreneurs across Asia as well, beginning here in Singapore.”
