Nigeria wants to start charging a tax on local online purchases

Nigeria’s government is looking into updating its value added tax (VAT) to include online purchases as a part of a push to raise more revenue its budget.

The head of Nigeria’s federal tax agency has suggested that banks could deduct five per cent VAT on all local online purchases made with a bank card.
