calQrisk to develop AI oversight tools in FCA sandbox

calQrisk

calQrisk has secured a place on the UK Financial Conduct Authority’s Supercharged Sandbox, an innovation initiative aimed at fostering the next wave of AI tools for the financial services industry.

Through the programme, chosen participants gain access to the regulator’s expertise, high-powered computing resources and synthetic financial datasets, allowing them to build and test emerging technologies inside a supervised regulatory setting.

The firm intends to use its participation to speed up work on AI features offering ongoing regulatory assurance to senior executives who fall under accountability regimes, including the UK’s Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SMCR).

Although regulated firms produce large amounts of governance, risk and compliance data, this information is often scattered across different systems, documents and departments. calQrisk aims to link these disparate sources together, continually monitor shifts in risk exposure and regulatory duties, and provide tailored, timely assurance to those individuals charged with oversight.

In contrast to general-purpose AI tools, the company’s technology has been built specifically for regulated settings, where explainability, transparency, governance and evidence are non-negotiable. It is intended to assist compliance and governance professionals by highlighting relevant insights, bolstering oversight and raising the standard of regulatory evidence, all while keeping organisations in charge of their own data.

calQrisk supports almost 300 organisations worldwide, covering enterprise risk management, operational resilience, compliance, audit, third-party risk management and governance across financial services and other heavily regulated industries.

calQrisk CEO Chris Hanlon said, “Regulated organisations already hold the information they need to demonstrate good governance. The challenge is that it is rarely connected in a way that gives senior decision-makers continuous visibility of their responsibilities.

Participation in the FCA Supercharged Sandbox enables us to work alongside the regulator as we develop AI capabilities that help organisations transform fragmented governance data into meaningful, real-time assurance. Our focus is on helping customers make better decisions using their own trusted information within secure, governed and auditable processes.”
