Mambu and Mastercard team up on cross-border payments

Fiserv taps Trulioo to tame cross-border onboarding risk

Mambu, the cloud banking platform, has partnered with Mastercard, the global payments company, to help financial institutions on its platform deliver quicker, safer and clearer international payments.

Under the partnership, Mambu will link Mastercard Move, the card giant’s suite of worldwide money transfer tools, to its Intelligent Core. The Intelligent Core is a cloud-native platform for core banking and payments, designed to run, coordinate and expand financial services at scale. Mambu clients will get a ready-made connection to Mastercard Move’s cross-border functionality, which should cut the complexity of implementation and help them launch services faster.

With the integration in place, banks and other institutions will be able to embed cross-border payments directly into their digital banking journeys, giving customers a smoother experience.

The tie-up extends Mambu’s push into payments, which began with its purchase of Numeral in 2024. It is expected to give banks a wide base on which to build international payment offerings for SME and retail clients, whose appetite for transparent and friction-free overseas transfers keeps rising.

Mastercard Move supports transfers within and between more than 200 countries and territories, in over 150 currencies. It reaches more than 17bn endpoints and 95% of the global banked population.

Founded in 2011, Mambu allows banks, lenders, credit unions, FinTechs, retailers and other organisations to build, roll out and continually refine modern financial products. Its composable model, enhanced by the Intelligent Core, brings AI agents, autonomous workflows and real-time intelligence into banking operations, letting separate components, systems and connectors be combined in whatever way suits business goals. The platform covers core banking, deposits, lending, payments and Islamic banking.

Mambu CEO Fernando Zandona said, “Adding cross-border payment capabilities shouldn’t require financial institutions to take on years of integration work or rethink their entire tech stack. By integrating Mambu’s Intelligent Core with Mastercard Move, we are giving our customers a simpler way to introduce these capabilities, accelerate time to market and continue building on the investments they’ve already made. That’s the value of a composable foundation: it lets the Intelligent Core keep extending what financial institutions already trust, rather than replacing it.”

Mastercard global head of transfer solutions Pratik Khowala said, “Despite advances in digital payments, moving money across borders remains complex and fragmented, with people and businesses expecting greater speed, transparency and certainty. Mastercard Move combines global reach with trusted money movement capabilities to help financial institutions meet those expectations.”
