Quantifind takes AI risk intelligence fight to Asia-Pacific

Quantifind has opened its first Asia-Pacific office in Sydney, a move that puts the company on the ground in a region where regulatory pressure on banks is intensifying.

Alongside the new office, the company has built a dedicated regional leadership team headed by Qing Liu, who takes the role of general manager, Asia Pacific.

The decision comes in response to rising client demand across the region, with Quantifind planning to use Australia as both a base for supporting local financial institutions and a springboard into wider Asia-Pacific markets.

The Sydney launch forms part of the international push Quantifind outlined after securing a $200m growth investment led by Summit Partners. Citi Ventures, S&P Global, Deloitte and Stephens Group also took part in that round, which named Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Americas as priority markets.

Banks and other financial firms in the region are overhauling their financial crime functions as supervisors sharpen their focus on sanctions evasion, scams, mule networks, cross-border payments, customer due diligence and opaque ownership structures. Compliance teams are also struggling with a mounting workload, as the number and complexity of risk signals outpaces their capacity to review them.

Older rules-based and keyword-driven systems produce heavy volumes of false positives, which frustrate customers and divert investigators away from genuine threats.

Liu joins with extensive experience in AML/CTF, KYC, sanctions screening, third-party risk management and Australian regulation. She spent more than 12 years at Moody’s, latterly leading its Asia-Pacific solution specialists and industry practice leads, and was recognised as Compliance Leader of the Year at the 2024 Women in Banking and Finance Awards.

Stephen Ngo has been hired as head of solution delivery, overseeing implementation and technical rollout across the region, while Elizabeth Luu becomes senior customer success manager, working with clients in Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific.

Quantifind counts six of the world’s ten largest Tier 1 financial institutions among its clients and supports tens of thousands of professionals working in financial crime, compliance and national security worldwide. According to an independent economic study by Celent, a Tier 1 bank using the company’s Graphyte platform for KYC and sanctions screening could cut yearly alert-processing costs by up to $177.9m.

Quantifind general manager, APAC Qing Liu said, “Financial crime teams are not short of alerts. They are short of time, and they increasingly need to defend every decision they make. The opportunity for AI is not simply to automate existing processes, but to dramatically improve the precision of the intelligence behind those decisions. With a team on the ground, we can combine Quantifind’s global technology with the regulatory, market, and customer context that is specific to Asia-Pacific.”
