Slow compliance reviews threaten product launch momentum

Investment firms risk losing valuable product launch momentum when compliance reviews take days or weeks to clear, according to Red Oak, a provider of AI-driven marketing review and content distribution tools.

Following conversations with sales and marketing professionals at the Money Management Institute (MMI) Conference in Boston, the company said promotional material for new products can take several days to a week to receive approval. This can leave products available for days before teams have compliant content ready to share with prospective clients and distribution partners.

Some firms have responded by issuing approved “coming soon” messaging before launch or coordinating product release dates with marketing schedules. Others manage reviews through email, Outlook and SharePoint, creating fragmented approval records, while firms relying on external reviewers can face waits of a week or longer.

Red Oak said these delays create a gap between content creation and distribution, potentially undermining the impact of product launches. It also warned that the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) to produce marketing content could increase pressure on review teams if approval processes fail to keep pace with higher content volumes.

The company’s AI review tool assesses marketing materials against a firm’s internal policies and explains the reasoning behind its findings, with the aim of accelerating reviews and making decisions easier to justify. Its 4U platform then distributes approved content to partners and advisers, connecting compliance sign-off with distribution in a single workflow.

Red Oak also highlighted Mira, a tool that converts a firm’s compliance handbook into code and maps internal rules against US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) precedents. The tool flags deviations as they occur, offering an ongoing approach to compliance monitoring.

This is intended to complement the annual compliance programme review required under SEC Rule 206(4)-7, which Red Oak said can leave gaps between written policies and day-to-day practices.

As financial firms adopt AI to accelerate content production, the company’s message is that compliance and distribution workflows must evolve alongside it to prevent approval bottlenecks from eroding the benefits.
