Payments company CHAI said to raise $60m in Series B round

South Korean payments company CHAI has reportedly scored $60m in its Series B funding round, which will bolster its global expansion efforts.

The capital injection was led by Seoul-based Hanwha Investment and Securities, according to a report form Tech In Asia.

Other investors included SoftBank Ventures Asia, SK Networks, Aarden Partners, Hashed and other unnamed strategic backers.

The company’s import service enables online businesses to accept more than 20 different payment options , including digital wallets, credit cards and more. The technology currently serves more than 2,200 merchants, the article said.

It recently released a new gamified rewards platform for its Chai card, which enables users to earn cashback on popular brands.

The FinTech previously raised $15m in its Series A in February 2020, it said.

Last month, fellow South Korean FinTech company Qara closed its funding round on $3m. The FinTech offers an AI-powered robo-advisor, and is using the funds to release a new global stock trading service for individuals.
