LatAm funding surged 2.6x YoY in Q2

LatAm FinTech companies raised $1.05bn across 25 deals in Q2 2026, the highest level of funding recorded across the five-quarter period.

That represents a 2.6x increase on the $398.1m raised across 25 transactions in Q2 2025, a dramatic step up on a year-on-year basis.

Against Q1 2026, funding rose by 82% from $575.3m, again across a near-identical deal count.

The headline figure is significantly influenced by deal concentration.

The top two transactions in Q2 2026 alone totalled $905m, accounting for the vast majority of the quarter’s funding.

Deal activity, at 25 transactions, is joint lowest across the five-quarter period, underscoring that the record funding total has been driven by a small number of outsized deals rather than any broad-based acceleration in market activity.

Average deal value increased to $41.8m as investors demonstrated greater confidence in the market

LatAm FinTech sector’s average deal value in Q2 2026 stood at $41.8m per transaction, the highest of the three periods.

That is 2.6x above the $15.9m average recorded in Q2 2025, a substantial increase year-on-year.

Against Q1 2026, where the average stood at $22.1m, Q2 2026 comes in 89% higher.

The influence of the two largest deals is considerable.Strip those out and the underlying average would look markedly different, suggesting that the headline figure flatters the broader market somewhat.

Nevertheless, the capacity of the LatAm FinTech market to attract transactions of this scale is itself a meaningful signal of growing investor confidence in the region.

Plata, a technology-led digital bank operating in LatAm, raised $405m in a Series C round at a valuation of $5bn, making it one of the biggest LatAm FinTech deals of the second quarter

The round was led by Bicycle Capital, with new institutional investors including Qatar Investment Authority, BTG Pactual and Valor Capital Group joining alongside existing backers Kora, Hedosophia, Spice Expeditions and Audeo Ventures, with Morgan Stanley serving as exclusive placement agent.

Founded three years ago, Plata has accumulated more than 3.5 million active credit card customers in Mexico, over 750,000 of whom were obtaining a credit card for the first time, and has surpassed $600m in annualised revenue while building an $800m loan portfolio supported by proprietary AI risk models.

The company launched full banking operations as Banco Plata in Mexico in March 2026, adding deposit and debit capabilities to its existing credit offering, and received authorisation to incorporate a financial company in Colombia in July 2025.

Proceeds will support the next phase of growth as Plata scales its technology-led platform across the region.
