MetLife and Lyra Health join forces for better workforce mental health solutions

MetLife, a key player in disability and absence management services, and Lyra Health, a top contender in the sphere of global workforce mental health solutions, are teaming up.

This new partnership aims to facilitate more accessible mental health services for employees filing disability and absence claims.

The partnership is born out of a growing need for comprehensive employee wellness. Today, MetLife’s 21st Employee Benefit Trends Study reports only 41% of employees feel wholly well. Employees are increasingly turning to their employers for support – with 80% believing that the company they work for has a responsibility towards their wellbeing. Simultaneously, 86% of employers concur. As expectations rise, providing access to benefits that aid health, financial security, and flexibility during claims and absences can potentially meet employees’ needs both within and outside the professional realm.

MetLife operates globally, offering insurance, annuities, employee benefits, and asset management to help individuals and institutions build a more confident future. Founded in 1868, MetLife maintains operations in over 40 global markets, holding leading positions in the US, Japan, Latin America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

Lyra Health, on the other hand, takes the lead in providing Workforce Mental Health benefits. The company serves over 15 million global employees and their dependents. By using AI-powered triage, personalised support, and an innovative digital platform, Lyra Health transforms access to life-changing mental health care. Their services result in rapid connections between members and an exclusive network of mental health providers, as well as wellbeing tools.

Under this partnership, eligible employees will gain access to Lyra’s global network of over 28,000 providers via a referral at the onset of their claim. The accelerated access to mental health care, clinically shown to improve anxiety and depression symptoms in nine out of ten people, will be integral to the initiative. The integrated approach will also aid employers in providing more comprehensive well-being services during their employee’s leave and streamline the administrative tasks associated with disability claims and mental health resources.

“Disability and absence management services support our customers’ employees during some of the most critical times, protecting and supporting their health during recovery,” MetLife senior vice president, Group Benefits Juliane Kowalski said. “Collaborating with Lyra Health is one way we can further support our claimants’ holistic well-being during their claim or absence with available mental health offerings to assist their individual needs throughout their journey.”

Sean McBride, chief revenue officer at Lyra Health added, “Lyra’s evidence-based mental health care and MetLife’s disability and absence management work in concert to help ensure that people can easily access high quality care when they need it most. Lyra is proud to work with MetLife on this new and important pathway to care for people in need.”
