ThetaRay, an AI-native provider of FCC infrastructure, has named Laure Richmond as its new chief financial officer as tightening regulation on both sides of the Atlantic pushes banks and payment firms towards AI-driven compliance tools.
In her new role, Richmond will take charge of the company’s worldwide finance function, direct how capital is deployed, and steer the operational scaling needed to support its expansion. She arrives with more than 20 years of senior finance experience spanning institutional trading and financial technology.
The appointment lands at a moment of mounting regulatory pressure. In the United States, the GENIUS Act introduces demanding BSA/AML requirements and real-time transaction screening duties for issuers of digital assets and payments. Across Europe, the EU AI Act places high-risk AI used in financial services under rigorous controls, requiring compliance platforms that are transparent and ready for audit.
With institutions increasingly swapping out older rules-based systems for AI they depend on to operate, Richmond will shape the financial strategy behind ThetaRay’s fast-paced international growth.
Richmond’s career has centred on running finance, regulatory compliance and large-scale operations at technology-led financial businesses. Most recently, she held the CFO post at TMX VettaFi and TMX Datalinx, where she oversaw financial strategy for the data and analytics arm of TMX Group. Before that, she spent close to 20 years at Nomura subsidiary Instinet, rising to global CFO.
ThetaRay builds AI-native infrastructure designed to help financial institutions tackle financial crime compliance, with teams operating in Tel Aviv, London, Madrid and New York.
Richmond will be based in New York but will operate across the firm’s international offices, linking financial rigour with product development, commercial delivery and client outcomes.
ThetaRay CEO Brad Levy said, “With regulatory shifts turning explainable AI into core infrastructure, scaling globally requires both discipline and sharp execution. Laure’s proven track record across major financial technology platforms and her hands-on approach make her the partner we need to drive our capital strategy and lead industry innovation and consolidation.”
Richmond added, “ThetaRay is defining the future of financial crime compliance through agentic AI. Spending time on the ground with our teams in Tel Aviv, London, Madrid, and New York confirmed the immense opportunity ahead. My focus is on pairing capital strategy with product innovation to expand our platform capabilities and capitalize on strategic growth opportunities.”
