Automated relationship risk management developer Sigma Ratings has named Alexandre de Villiers as its new chief of staff – VP of operations.

In the role, de Villiers will head operations, drive strategy and implement processes to help Sigma Ratings reach business goals across product, engineering and growth.

Additionally, he will take the lead on daily operations and provide data-driven insights to ensure strong cohesion among senior leaders. This will allow Sigma’s co-founders, Stuart Jones, Jr. and Gabrielle Haddad to focus on high-level initiatives and partnerships.

de Villiers said, “I chose to join Sigma because I believe in the vision, the product and the leadership team.

“I was looking for the opportunity to help a larger startup with a solid foundation to grow into a more mature organisation, all while working on an interesting problem with a great team. I am confident I found it with Sigma.”

After studying finance and international relations at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, de Villiers spent five years working at ION. Whilst there, he worked in their Leadership Development Program, then moved to a fixed-income trading consultant role for banks in the U.S., Canada and Europe. His final position in ION was as head of client relationship management.

In 2022, de Villiers got an MBA from MIT Sloan and while in Massachusetts, he helped launch CoVerified. This is a healthcare technology platform that allows large corporations, government and nursing homes to reduce the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and ran operations as COO for close to three years.

Sigma CEO Stuart Jones, Jr added, “We are thrilled to welcome Alex to our team. His experience and success, both as an entrepreneur and an operator, will help us continue to deliver excellence for our customers and accelerate our journey as a company.”

Late last year, Sigma Ratings released its onboarding KYB and KYC monitoring solution. The tool conducts continuous KYC/KYB monitoring so firms can get instant updates when a corporate registry identifies a change to an organisation.
